ROMLINK MT Weekly Intelligence Brief
Coverage window: 20–27 July 2026
Executive assessment
This week’s most commercially relevant pattern is not a single technology announcement. It is the movement of multiple Gulf and African projects into tender, contractor-selection, financing, or construction stages.
For Our business, the strongest demand signals are:
- Saudi mixed-use, entertainment, utilities, and power infrastructure needing ELV, lighting, BMS, metering, and security packages.
- UAE and wider-Gulf substations, water systems, ports, and industrial projects requiring automation, monitoring, CCTV, and resilient control systems.
- African renewable-energy projects moving toward financial close or implementation, especially wind, solar, floating PV, storage, and transmission.
Saudi Arabia
1. Riyadh Expo 2030 contractors submit interest for a new structural package
Status: Confirmed project-stage development — 24 July
Contractors have submitted expressions of interest for substructure works at the Riyadh Expo 2030 site, showing that the project is advancing through procurement rather than remaining at the master-planning stage. [ See more here]
Why it matters ?
Once structural packages advance, subsequent opportunities normally emerge for:
- intelligent façade and architectural lighting;
- BMS and energy-management systems;
- access control and visitor-management technology;
- CCTV and video analytics;
- parking, occupancy, air-quality and public-realm sensors;
- KNX, DALI-2 and integrated control systems.
The Expo site is likely to favour scalable, interoperable technologies with strong European references.
2. Qiddiya has tendered another major entertainment package
Status: Confirmed tender development — 24 July
Qiddiya has tendered a construction package associated with its Dragon Ball theme-park development. [ See more here]
Why it matters?
Theme parks are unusually technology-intensive. Relevant supply categories include:
- show and architectural lighting;
- emergency and wayfinding lighting;
- high-density CCTV;
- facial or behavioural video analytics, subject to local rules;
- access control and ticketing interfaces;
- BMS, HVAC controls and indoor-air monitoring;
- public-address, evacuation and crowd-management systems.
This is a more targeted opportunity than generic Saudi real-estate outreach.
3. A developer has been appointed for a Saudi hybrid-power project
Status: Confirmed development appointment — 24 July
Saudi Arabia appointed a developer for a hybrid-power project during the week. Publicly visible reporting confirms the appointment, although the full technical configuration is not available without subscription access. [ See more here]
Why it matters?
Hybrid generation typically increases demand for:
- power-plant controls;
- SCADA and remote monitoring;
- energy-management platforms;
- meteorological and condition-monitoring sensors;
- industrial CCTV and perimeter security;
- battery or generator control interfaces;
- power-quality and smart-metering equipment.
4. Saudi Downtown awarded an Al-Khobar substation contract
Status: Confirmed contract award — 23 July
Saudi Downtown Company awarded a substation contract connected with its Al-Khobar development.
Why it matters?
This is evidence that Saudi Downtown projects are moving from concept into enabling infrastructure. Substations and mixed-use districts can require:
- protection and control equipment;
- transformer and switchgear monitoring;
- SCADA communications;
- energy meters;
- thermal imaging;
- access control and CCTV;
- intelligent outdoor and public-space lighting.
It also provides a route into the broader Al-Khobar district rather than only the substation itself.
5. A contractor was appointed for the Miraf district in Al-Khobar
Status: Confirmed contractor appointment — 22 July
A contractor was appointed for the Miraf district in Al-Khobar, adding another active Eastern Province mixed-use development to the opportunity pipeline.
Why it matters?
District-scale development creates repeatable packages across multiple assets:
- smart street and landscape lighting;
- residential and commercial BMS;
- access and parking systems;
- CCTV and intercom;
- smart metering;
- irrigation automation;
- occupancy and environmental sensors.
District projects are valuable because one approved technology can sometimes be replicated across several buildings.
6. A strategic reservoir contract was awarded in Mecca
Status: Confirmed contract award — 22 July
A Saudi contractor won a strategic water-reservoir contract in Mecca. [ See more here]
Why it matters?
Water infrastructure requires technologies adjacent to ROMLINK MT’s core sectors:
- level, pressure, leakage and water-quality sensors;
- pump automation;
- SCADA;
- remote telemetry;
- access control and perimeter CCTV;
- backup-power monitoring;
- intelligent external lighting.
7. Contractors are bidding for a fifth Jafurah expansion phase
Status: Confirmed bidding activity — 20 July
Contractors submitted bids for another expansion phase of the Jafurah gas programme. [ See more here]
Why it matters?
Large industrial-energy projects generate demand for:
- hazardous-area CCTV;
- thermal cameras;
- perimeter systems;
- industrial IoT sensors;
- fire and gas interfaces;
- lighting for process and non-process areas;
- building automation for control rooms and support buildings;
- predictive-maintenance systems.
The certification barrier is higher than in commercial buildings, but margins and project scale can also be stronger.
UAE
8. EtihadWE tendered an approximately $150 million Ajman substation project
Status: Confirmed tender — 21 July
Etihad Water and Electricity launched a tender for a major substation project in Ajman valued at about $150 million.
Why it matters?
Substation procurement can create openings for:
- intelligent protection and control;
- substation automation;
- energy and power-quality metering;
- thermal and condition monitoring;
- CCTV and access control;
- fire detection;
- secure industrial communications.
9. Dubai received bids for new water-pumping stations
Status: Confirmed bid-stage development — 23 July

Why it matters to ROMLINK MT
Pumping stations are strong applications for:
- PLC and pump control;
- pressure, flow and vibration monitoring;
- energy optimization;
- remote telemetry;
- CCTV and intrusion protection;
- fault and maintenance alerts;
- backup-power supervision.
This is directly relevant to European automation and industrial-IoT suppliers that may lack UAE market access.
